FAQ

What is breastmilk jewelry?

Breastmilk jewelry is the use of breastmilk to make a personalized stone and piece of jewelry that can be worn long after your breastfeeding journey is over. All of our pieces are custom made with your milk right in our studio in Gig Harbor, WA.

How is it made?

We preserve your milk, dry it, hand crush it into a powder, and then mix it with jewelers resin to be set and cured into stones.

How much milk do you need?

One ounce of milk is needed.

How do I send you my milk?

You will pay to have your milk mailed to me. Detailed instructions will be sent to your email when your order is placed, and you can also look at our shipping instructions page for more details.

What are your jewelry pieces made of?

All of our pieces are made of .925 sterling silver that is either rose gold plated, yellow gold plated, or gold filled. Gold filled jewelry has a thicker layer of gold used over a solid piece of sterling silver jewelry, it has a much thicker coating than gold plated.

What's the difference between solid gold, gold filled, and sterling silver?

All of our silver pieces are .925 sterling silver and are made up of 92.5% silver, the remaining consists of mostly copper. Gold fill products are a thick layer of solid gold on top of a base layer of other metals (usually brass or copper). The layer is much thicker than the gold plated jewelry. Gold fill is an affordable alternative to solid gold, and they look almost the same! Solid gold pieces are the highest quality metals you can buy and are priced based on the current gold market. They are the most expensive options, but are also the longest-lasting and most durable. Solid gold jewelry has no base layer of other metals (like gold fill), and is made entirely from one material (14K gold), which is why it is also the most expensive option.

How do I know what size to order?

The best way to find your accurate size is to go to your local mall jeweler and have them size you for free. While some pieces are offered in half sizes, most are only offered in whole sizes so be sure to find your closest whole size before ordering.

How do I care for my breastmilk jewelry?

Proper jewelry care is essential to ensuring your jewelry lasts you for the years to come. Some important care tips are:

  • Remove before washing hands, showering, bathing or swimming
  • Avoid exposure to UV and heat
  • Always remove jewelry when using harsh soaps, hand sanitizer, perfume, creams, or cleaning products
  • Avoid sleeping with your jewelry on
  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Sterling silver pieces are recommended for occasional wear, they can tarnish over time
  • Gold/rose gold filled pieces can be worn daily
  • Check your stone from time to time to ensure it is secure in the setting
What is your current turnaround time?

The current turnaround time is 8-12 weeks from the date we receive your milk. Your jewelry piece is custom ordered at the time your order is placed and due to this the turnaround time can vary, typically you will get your piece much sooner than this.

Do you offer a way to customize what goes inside your ring?

Can I see my jewelry before it is shipped?

We are not able to do that. Every piece of jewelry is unique and different, and everyone’s milk and inclusions are totally unique to them. It’s very difficult for us to predict how a piece will turn out, so when you order, you are under the assumption that we will do our very best and will send you a piece of jewelry completely unique and specific to you. You may be as specific as you’d like on your order form with the details of what you would like included in your ring, or you can give our team complete creative freedom. If you do not include any specific requests on your order form we are under the assumption that you have given us creative freedom and will create your ring using our best judgment to create a unique and beautiful ring. We cannot guarantee how a piece of jewelry will turn out, and we cannot remake jewelry at no cost if we followed your instructions to the best of our ability.

Do you offer any guarantee?

Your breastmilk is preserved to ensure your piece lasts a lifetime. Your precious keepsakes should not discolor due to the preservation of the inclusion. If a piece of breastmilk jewelry is going to discolor due to a milk preservation error, it will happen within the first 3 months.  For this reason, I offer a 3-month guarantee on the breastmilk stone. It is very important to follow all of our jewelry care instructions such as not bathing or showering with your jewelry on, exposing it to direct sunlight or prolonged heat, chemicals, or submerging it in water. Your breastmilk jewelry is coated in a high-quality jeweler’s resin which is a hard plastic.  Mistreatment and improper care of your precious jewelry can lead to discoloration or warping of the piece. If your jewelry becomes discolored before 3 months from the time your order was finished, I will be happy to examine the jewelry.  If in my professional opinion, the milk jewelry has discolored as a result of a milk preservation error and not due to improper jewelry care, I will remake the piece for you at the cost of shipping.

Do you offer any refunds?

Orders are non-refundable after we receive your inclusions in the mail. If you choose to cancel your order before sending your milk in AND within 180 days of purchase, we will refund all but $50 for most jewelry PER PIECE.

What happens to any leftover milk?

I keep any extra preserved powder on hand!  This way if something should happen to your stone or you want another piece I have it already processed.

Disclaimer:

I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RETURNS OR EXCHANGES OF ANY KIND.  EACH PIECE IS UNIQUE AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE RETURNED. PLEASE BE 100% SURE ON RING SIZE BEFORE ORDERING AS A REFUND OR EXCHANGE WILL NOT BE ISSUED IF YOU ORDERED THE INCORRECT SIZE. Note that variations such as small air bubbles within the piece, mold lines, evidence of hand forming and hand sanding, bead caps not sitting 100% flush, and other small imperfections are all within the normal range of handmade jewelry. By purchasing from Everlasting Moments Jewelry, you understand that your piece will not be 100% “flawless”.
